Alumnus Film Premieres at Sundance Film Festival

Congratulations to alumnus Cooper Raiff '15 on his film screening at the Sundance Film Festival.

His second film, Cha Cha Real Smooth, won the Audience Award in the Film's US dramatic competition. The film was acquired by Apple for $15 million dollars and will compete at SXSW in spring 2022. He wrote, directed, produced, and starred in Cha Cha Real Smooth, which features the story of a college graduate who returns home while feeling unsure about what the future brings. This is Cooper's second original feature film, following his directorial debut which won the 2020 SXSW Film Festival Grand Jury Prize for Best Narrative Film.

The Sundance Film Festival will be screening online only this year due to the most recent COVID surge and will start on January 20.

Cooper started his acting journey in upper school. In a recent Deadline article, Cooper said "My senior year, when everyone was talking about college, I decided I wanted to write, in college. I wrote a play my senior year and acted in it. That was the first time I really felt like I enjoyed making something, and being the author of it."

Raiff's directorial debut won the SXSW Grand Jury Prize for best narrative feature. His next film, The Trashers, is currently in casting and production.
