Student’s Play Brought to Life in PUP Fest

Congratulations to Antonio Velazquez ’26 for having his play selected as part of the Playwrights Under Progress (PUP) Fest.

Last month, Junior Players and Kitchen Dog Theater announced that the Playwrights Under Progress (PUP) Fest, the culminating event of their annual partnership with the Dallas Independent School District known as the Dallas Playwriting Arts Collective (D-PAC), will return to the stage for its 24th anniversary. Six scripts written by local high school playwrights were selected for this year’s production and will feature some of the area's top student actors.

Antonio Velazquez ’26 had his play, Waiting for the Plug, selected to be part of this year’s PUP Fest. His play, along with the five others selected, was presented as staged readings on June 7. These six scripts were selected from a field of submissions from a variety of high schools from all over the Metroplex.

PUP Fest allows high school playwrights the opportunity to be mentored by some of Dallas’ most renowned playwrights. Each script that is chosen is paired with a cast of teen actors and directed by local professional actors and directors.
