Debate Team Brings Home Multiple Awards

Congratulations to the Greenhill Debate team for an impressive showing at The Ed Long Invitational last weekend.

On November 8-9, 63 Greenhill students competed at The Ed Long Invitational at The Hockaday School. Their collective performance earned the team both first place in Debate Sweepstakes and first place in Overall Sweepstakes.

  • In Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Owen Gao ’28 and Vivek Thankavel ’27 co-championed the division, with Michael Ahn ‘26 finishing in third place.
  • In Policy Debate, Soyam Mohammed ’26 and Iliyan Ali ’26 championed the division.
  • In World Schools Debate, Greenhill Platinum (Benjamin Beckman ’26, Arhaan Iyer ’28, Marleigh Massoud ’28, Vijay Naidu ’26, and Josephina Qiu ’26) championed the division, earning their first bid to April's Tournament of Champions.
  • In Novice LD, Rishaan Jain ’29, Aditi Karthik ’29, Aarav Mehta ’29, and Anvitha Sagi ’29 co-championed the division, ranked first through fourth after the preliminary rounds.
  • In Novice Policy, Divya Chamarthy ’29 and Grace Li ’29 finished in second place, and Isabel Evans '29 and Arjan Sahni finished in third place.
  • In Dramatic Interpretation, Sidrah Tarpeh ’27 finished in third place.

The following students also competed in the elimination rounds: Sahith Chintapalli ’27, Jada Fleming ’29, Ansh Gandhi ’28, Reian Ghelani ’28, Adam Haq ’28, Trent Hedrick ’26, Tomal Khan ’28, Yunus Mohammed ’28, Ali Naseem ’27, Pratosh Raman ’26, Camille Richards ’29, Karina Singh ’28, Amanda Ye ’28, and Athena Yu ’28.

Eight students completed their qualification to the TFA State tournament: Michael Ahn ’26, Iliyan Ali ’26, Benjamin Beckman ’26, Soyam Mohammed ’26, Vijay Naidu ’26, Josephina Qiu ’26, Sidrah Tarpeh ’27, and Vivek Thankavel ’27.
