On January 17, Greenhill’s Middle School Novice and Intermediate Certamen teams competed at the St. Mark’s Certamen Invitational. Certamen is the Junior Classical League’s equivalent of Quiz Bowl, with questions pertaining to Latin grammar, listening comprehension, Latin derivatives, Greco-Roman mythology, PMAQ, Roman daily life, and Roman history. The Novice team – consisting of Aarna Gandhi ’31, Alex Loomis ’31, Vikram Thoduguli ’31, and Vihaan Kumbhani ’31 – earned fourth place out of 11 teams. They were undefeated in their matches, but their cumulative score wasn’t enough to secure a place in the finals. The Intermediate team – consisting of Zayla Yousuf ’30, Eric Guo ’30, and Beck Fuller ’30 – took the second-place trophy in the finals. Congratulations to both teams, and good luck at the JCL Area C Convention in February. |
