Quiz Bowl Students Earn Third Place

Congratulations to our Middle and Upper School students who competed at competitions last month.

Greenhill’s Middle and Upper School Quiz Bowl students started their 2025-2026 competition last month, with the Greenhill Fall Invitational on November 1 and the St. Mark Middle School Invitational on November 8. Results are below.

GREENHILL FALL INVITATIONAL

Greenhill School hosted its annual Fall Quiz Bowl Invitational on November 1, with 22 teams from eight schools competing.

Varsity Division
Twelve of the teams were in a Varsity division, where the top few teams earn bids to the High School National Championship Tournament (HSNCT), held annually in Atlanta in late May. Teams were split into two groups of six, and a full round-robin was played within those groups. The three top teams in each group formed a “Gold” group and played a full round-robin in the afternoon, while the remaining teams formed a “Silver” group and played a full round-robin in the afternoon.

In the Gold group, Greenhill A (comprised of Maya Jagsi ’26, Ayan Thombre ’26, Henry Lipnik ’27, and Tomal Khan ’28), St. Mark’s A, and Cistercian A finished afternoon play with records of 8-2. Based on head-to-head records, Greenhill A finished in third place overall and missed out on the playoff. However, Greenhill A earned a bid to HSNCT by virtue of their strong performance.

Greenhill B (comprised of Ari Beltzman ’28, Blake Clark ’29, Colin Houpt ’29, Evan Huang ’29, and Rishi Thadakapalli ’29) finished in fifth place in the Silver group.

Junior Varsity Division
The other 10 teams – comprising younger or newer players – played a full round-robin among themselves before a deciding final match was played between the two teams with the best records.

Greenhill C (comprised of Chait Mohan ’31, Simon Weinstein ’31, and Carson Yoo ’30) – finished in a tie for fifth, while Greenhill D – Aarna Gandhi ’31, Dittu Tandon ’31, Aadi Vaidya ’31, and Connor Wilson ’30 finished in ninth place.

ST. MARK MIDDLE SCHOOL INVITATIONAL

Greenhill A (comprised of Yusuf Ashraf ’31, Ella Bogdanow ’31, Cam Dawson ’30, and Carson Yoo ’30) finished tied for third place. They finished the day with a record of 8-1, with their only loss being in the semi-finals against the eventual champion.

Greenhill C (comprised of Louie Bader ’30, Everett Davies ’31, Beck Fuller ’30, Spencer Hanu ’31, Brett Slavinsky ’31, and Elliot Whitten ’30) advanced to the playoffs and finished tied for fifth place. There were a handful of teams that finished regulation with only two losses, but Greenhill C’s strong effort on bonuses (measured in points per bonus) earned them a spot in the top 8. As a result, Greenhill has qualified a second team for nationals!

Greenhill B (comprised of Aarna Gandhi ’31, Aarush Manikandan ’30, Chait Mohan ’31, Vikram Thoduguli ’31, and Simon Weinstein ’31) finished ninth, just outside of contention for a spot at nationals. Greenhill B won their playoff bracket by winning all three matches, including a tough final over St. Rita A.

Congratulations to all these students!
