On November 15, Middle and Upper School students competed in the Trinity Valley School Certamen Invitational, a friendly, unofficial tournament. A certamen tournament is the Junior Classical League’s equivalent of Quiz Bowl, with questions on topics ranging from Latin grammar, on-the-spot comprehension and composition, daily life, literature, mythology, Roman history, and quotations/mottoes. Several schools attended and competed in the novice (Latin I/7th grade Latin), intermediate (Latin II/8th grade Latin), and advanced (Latin III and above) levels. Greenhill’s Novice team – consisting of Aarna Gandhi ’31, Alex Loomis ’31, Vikram Thoduguli ’31, Vihaan Kumbhani ’31, and Arjun Shah ’31 – earned fifth place, a great showing for this first-time team. Greenhill’s Greenhill's Intermediate team – consisting of Zayla Yousuf ’30, Eric Guo ’30, Beck Fuller ’30, and Max Carona ’30 took the third-place trophy in the finals after a tiebreaker for second place. Greenhill Advanced team – consisting of Tomal Khan '28, Abe Glazer '29, Evan Huang '29, and Miles Hulme '29 – not only advanced to finals but took first place in this level! These students will have another opportunity to compete in January at the St. Mark’s Invitational. |
