Upper School Team Captures First in JCL Invitational

Congratulations to our Middle and Upper School JCL students who competed at the Trinity Valley School Certamen Invitational over the weekend.

On November 15, Middle and Upper School students competed in the Trinity Valley School Certamen Invitational, a friendly, unofficial tournament. A certamen tournament is the Junior Classical League’s equivalent of Quiz Bowl, with questions on topics ranging from Latin grammar, on-the-spot comprehension and composition, daily life, literature, mythology, Roman history, and quotations/mottoes.

Several schools attended and competed in the novice (Latin I/7th grade Latin), intermediate (Latin II/8th grade Latin), and advanced (Latin III and above) levels.

Greenhill’s Novice team – consisting of Aarna Gandhi ’31, Alex Loomis ’31, Vikram Thoduguli ’31, Vihaan Kumbhani ’31, and Arjun Shah ’31 – earned fifth place, a great showing for this first-time team. Greenhill’s

Greenhill's Intermediate team – consisting of Zayla Yousuf ’30, Eric Guo ’30, Beck Fuller ’30, and Max Carona ’30 took the third-place trophy in the finals after a tiebreaker for second place.

Greenhill Advanced team – consisting of Tomal Khan '28, Abe Glazer '29, Evan Huang '29, and Miles Hulme '29 – not only advanced to finals but took first place in this level!

These students will have another opportunity to compete in January at the St. Mark’s Invitational.
