Student Named Finalist in Texas Writing and Art Contest

Congratulations to Charles Chen ’34 for being named a finalist in the 2025 I Am Texas Writing and Art Contest, in the letter writing category.

The I Am Texas writing and art contest is hosted by The Bryan Museum in Galveston and is open to students in elementary, middle, and high schools. The contest’s categories embrace the I Am Texas theme, with art, letter writing, and short stories

Greenhill’s Charles Chen ’34 was recognized as a finalist in the letter-writing category. He chose to write a letter to George W. Bush because he was the only president who completed the Cub Scout journey, he noted in his letter.

“Your determination to improve education, your ability to lead the state, and your willingness to take on responsibilities helped make Texas a great state,” Charles wrote. “Thank you for being a flexible, hard-working, and devoted leader—a true Texas hero”

His writing will be published in the 2025 Historian’s Journal, which will become part of The Bryan Museum’s permanent library collection. Finalists are invited to a special reception at the museum in Galveston on November 23.

Congratulations, Charles!
