Greenhill School is excited to welcome national keynote speaker, licensed psychotherapist, author, and podcaster Lynn Lyons to campus on Thursday, February 26, at 6:00 pm to present “Three Mistakes Parents Make with Anxiety: The Truth About Accommodations, Reassurance, and Certainty.” This special event, hosted in partnership with the Greenhill Parents’ Association, Hockaday School, Good Shepherd School, and Parish Episcopal School, brings Lyons’s practical, research-based approach to understanding anxiety, worry, and emotional well-being in families. |

In her discussion, she will offer practical strategies to prevent and interrupt the generational cycle of worry. She will explain the difference between healthy worrying and debilitating anxiety, and how to reclaim emotional well-being.
From a loving place, many parents feel called to (and desire to) do more to support the emotional well-being and mental health needs of their children, yet many feel ill-equipped to do so. Signs of how chronically (and perhaps covertly) anxiety impacts children and their families are often missed and misunderstood. Solutions offered often feel cliched and ineffective, and sadly they often perpetuate the very same patterns that escalated the anxiety and depression in the first place. Those providing such support need help!
There is great opportunity to learn what works and what doesn’t to take on the many challenges of growing up. What are these traps we inadvertently fall into that strengthen anxiety and depression? What are the myths we need to bust, the paradigms we need to shift, and the skills we can build proactively to counter this?
Lyons is a licensed clinical social worker and psychotherapist in Concord, New Hampshire. She has been in private practice 35 years specializing in the treatment of anxiety disorders in adults and children.
With a special interest in breaking the generational cycle of worry in families, Lyons is the author/coauthor of several books and articles on anxiety, including Anxious Kids, Anxious Parents: 7 Ways to Stop the Worry Cycle and Raise Courageous & Independent Children, and the companion book for kids, Playing with Anxiety: Casey’s Guide for Teens and Kids. Her latest book for adults and teenagers, The Anxiety Audit, was released in October 2022.
Lynn is the co-host of the popular podcast, Flusterclux.
