2022 Wes Kittleman Impact Award Honoree: Scott Cotton

On May 11, 2022, during the Upper School Community Time meeting, Head of Upper School Trevor Worcester announced faculty member Scott Cotton as the 2022 Wes Kittleman Impact Award honoree.
Scott Cotton began teaching history at Greenhill in 2004 and is the Head Coach for the Varsity Boys Tennis Team.

The Wes Kittleman Impact Award, named in honor of a former Upper School faculty member, was established in 2019 by Alexandra and Johnny Chilton '78. This award recognizes an outstanding member of the teaching faculty in Upper School known for excellence and dedication in their positive and transformational impact on students.

The senior class nominates recipients of this award, and the Upper School student body votes to determine the nominee. Here are some comments about this year's award honoree taken from the nominations submitted by the Class of 2022:
"This faculty member's passion for the material they teach consistently engaged me in class and helped me develop my love of learning."
"Their efforts to make class as interactive as possible helped me grasp concepts that would have otherwise been confusing."
"He creates opportunities for students to share their opinions and thoughts while also challenging them to think deeper and consider all perspectives. Additionally, he is open at any time to help answer any question one might have."
"He strives to find passion within each of his students. I was able to learn a lot about my classmates through exercises. I loved his ability to connect with and relate to students."
"He often fosters heated debates both inside and outside of class, as he asks questions meant to challenge our own beliefs and help us learn to think for ourselves."
"Not only is he committed to bringing in speakers to show us the applications of his teachings in the real world, but he genuinely takes an interest in the lives of his students, especially when they have to do with the topics he teaches."
"The same energy was there every Green Day at 8:40 AM, and I haven't cared about a class as much as this one in a very long time. Overall, he has helped me form my own educated opinions about important events taking place across the globe, but more importantly, he has helped me find my passion. Within my entire high school experience, I've never been more impacted in one class than I have in Understanding 9/11 with this teacher."

Please join us in congratulating Scott Cotton on receiving this award.
Thank you to the Chilton family for making this award possible.
