- A moment when the whole school came together.
- Lifelong friendships that started on the Hill.
- A teacher who changed the course of your or your child's life.
- The excitement of being on stage or on the field.

"My favorite memory was girls' sports at the hill. My time with the field hockey team was a bright spot in my young life."
"My massive store of favorite memories began in my third-grade classes in the 1970s. I have written a memoir that is in manuscript form. Many of my students communicate with me often." - Former 3rd & 5th Grade Teacher, Assistant Head of Middle School, and Head of Summer on the Hill
"Michael Simpson was the best supervisor I ever had the pleasure of working with! He recognized my passion for letting students DO science. What started as a desire to have the science community interact with our students for one hour at the end of the day on Earth Day turned into an all-day affair after a few years, with huge Dallas area science community involvement. I loved organizing everything from bat rescue groups to poaching education to community gardens. I think all the Lower School students there during my time at Greenhill School will remember at least a few of the presentations. What a wonderful place to work!" - Former 1st & 2nd Grade Science Teacher |
"I loved Arbor Day. Our parents were sent a letter with the kinds of trees to be planted. When the day arrived, my brother (Dan Brewer '64) and I trekked out to find our tree. Mr. Findlay was on hand to help plant trees."
"My favorite Greenhill memory was when the Greenhill boys' basketball team beat St. Mark's (in 2025). The happiness I saw from everyone was just heartwarming."
"My senior year began in the fall of 1968 with the welcome addition of Greenhill’s first foreign exchange student. Mats Hernegard was from Sweden and thankfully Mats was an outstanding soccer player. Soccer season began right after our last football game and on the first day of practice we all knew things were going to be different with Mats on our team — he was by far the best player we had ever had on our team and likely the best player any of us had ever seen. We had an excellent season and qualified for the championship tournament that was held in Austin. By that point in the season, we had coalesced into a very good team and Mats helped all of us play our best. We made it thru the first two rounds and found ourselves in the championship game. As I recall, our opponent was Holland Hall and the weather was miserable, lots of rain. We played one game to a tie of 2-2, and it was very sloppy. At the end of regulation, the coaches decided to play on, sudden death. We played another full game of sudden death with no score. By that time, it was getting very dark with no stadium lights. They had to decide the outcome, before the wisdom of penalty kicks. I don’t know how or who, but they decided that the outcome would be decided by the flip of a coin. We lost. It was crushing... even our coach, Dick Williams, one of my all-time favorite teachers and coaches was in tears. To this day, whenever anyone wants to decide something by the flip of a coin, I decline." |
"My favorite memory is the years our girls soccer team won the SPC Championship – 1984 and 1985!"
"I attended Greenhill from 3rd through 8th grade. The quality of education and the social environment were so good that we sent two of our children there, 30 years later! One son attended 1st through 6th grade, and another attended from 5th through 10th grade. Some of my favorite memories are the 7th-grade Texas History trip, the Electric Sunshine Man production, football, and the passion of the faculty and coaches all left indelible impressions upon my life. Teaching me how to carry myself, instilling self-confidence, and creating long-lasting friendships are the priceless elements that a Greenhill education brought to me and my family." - Former Student and Former Parent |

Faculty Spotlights
We asked our alumni to share their fondest memories of Greenhill faculty. Here is what they said...
"Mr. P, who never aged, is a standout memory about the importance of math. He taught me, and two of my sons! Ms. Linda Davis, who read to us as 3rd graders, left a strong impression on literature. Ms. Peggy Norvell supported me in fifth grade as a mentor beyond the curriculum. The ever-present Mr. Ron on the maintenance team, encouraging students with kindness. Ms. Jean Fortier is the reason I'm still bilingual in Spanish. Coach Mark Samide helped with weightlifting and football. Ms. Deborah Henry supported us as parents of our middle son, our first Greenhill progeny. I can't choose just one!" - Former Student and Former Parent |
"Coach Penny Powell. She was a US Field Hockey player who started field hockey at Greenhill and got up the games with other schools. Some folks didn't care for her because she had a way of telling the truth and in the 70s that wasn't popular when it came to girls' sports, but she made me feel good about my athletic ability which had never been acknowledged by anyone." |
"This is a hard choice, there were so many teachers that were so caring and kind. I have two, Mr. Kittleman who encouraged us to NOT play pitty pat, and Mr. Stansfield who enjoyed surprising us in biology, and I always considered Mr. Findlay a facuty member. We were all his kids."
"Dr. Graves teaching us how to make outlines on a paper sack." |
