Greenhill Mourns the Passing of Former Board Chair Edwin L. Cox, Sr.

Greenhill mourns the passing of Edwin L. Cox, Sr., who died on Wednesday, November 5, 2020.

The Dallas businessman, philanthropist, and education advocate played a big role at Greenhill during its early years, serving as its Board Chair from 1967 to 1971. Edwin, and his wife, Anne, were widely-respected leaders in the School community and played a pivotal role in Greenhill's financial sustainability in the 1960s. Cox helped lead the "Save the Land" campaign, which raised money to keep Greenhill at its current location. Also, Cox helped create the School’s first annual fund, which has become known as the Greenhill Fund. In addition, Cox Gymnasium – the School’s first physical education/athletics building – bears his name, and the family donated Greenhill’s first tennis courts in the spring of 1968 in order to help attract top talents. The Cox family had two Greenhill graduates – Chandler (Cox) Mashek ’68 and Berry Cox ‘72.

Greenhill sends their deepest condolences to the entire Cox family. Additional information may be found here.
