Quiz Bowl Teams Excel at Texas State Championships

The Greenhill Quiz Bowl team captured the 2019 Texas High School State Championship in the Junior Varsity Division this past weekend.
 
The team - which consists of freshmen Gokulan Anand, Jude Griffin, Josh Rubel, and Shruti Siva - defeated St. Mark's School of Texas before falling to Strake Jesuit College Preparatory (Houston) by a single question to finish fourth in the preliminary rounds. As a result, the team earned a first round bye heading into the elimination rounds. The Greenhill Quiz Bowl team defeated TAG Magnet A in the quarterfinals then defeated Strake Jesuit College Preparatory in the semifinals by 200 points. In the finals, Greenhill defeated Coppell "A" Team to secure the tournament title.
 
At the Texas State Middle & Elementary School Championships, Greenhill finished third overall in the Championship Division. The Middle School team of Ahmed Agha, Azal Amer, Nikhil Nandipati, and Evans Senvalds posted a 6-2 record in the preliminary rounds. The team went into the playoffs ranked third, and lost in the semifinals to St. John's School. In the Elementary Division (6th Grade and Below), Greenhill earned Gold Medal honors are sweeping through the playoff rounds. This is the first time Greenhill has finished first overall at the Texas State Elementary competition. The team consisted of Ali Agha, Collin Cannon, Aaron Kuang, Hasan Makhani, and Kate Ponnambalam.
