Greenhill Football to Sport VICIS Zero1 Helmets Next Season

This upcoming football season, Greenhill football players will be wearing state-of-the-art VICIS Zero1 helmets, which recently earned a top-rating from the NFL's annual testing of football helmets for the second straight season. The tests include performance, protection, and the helmet's ability to reduce the severity of any head impact.

Greenhill football players and their families had an opportunity to meet and visit with VICIS representatives, and following a short presentation about each player was fitted for their own custom helmet. The helmet is fit specifically for each individual student-athletes, and they will be the only one who wear it during their time as an Upper School football player.

The VICIS Zero1 helmets were developed by pediatric neurosurgeon Sam Browd. With an outer shell constructed of a flexible polymer, the helmets work like car bumpers in their capacity to immediately respond to and reduce the impacts that occur during both practices and games. Currently, the helmets are utilized by professional football players on 28 NFL teams, including reigning Most Valuable Player quarterback Patrick Mahomes. In addition over 120 college football programs and 1,250 high school programs are currently using VICIS Zero1 helmets. Last May, the VICIS Zero1 helmets beat out 16 other competitors to earn a five-star rating from Virginia Tech Helmet Lab, whose goal is to identify through research and testing specific helmets that have the greatest capacity to reduce the risk of head injuries.
