Greenhill Debate Team Receives Top Honors at NSDA Tournament

The Greenhill Debate captured a pair of championships at the National Speech & Debate Tournament hosted by the National Speech & Debate Association in Birmingham, Alabama, on June 18 - 23. The NSDA National Tournament is the world's largest academic competition with students competing from all 50 states to go along with competitors from several international countries.
 
Samar Ahmad '19 was honored with Top Speaker in the Nation honors, outlasting the 360 other speakers in the competition. Ahmad along with her partner Ryan Zlotky '19 went undefeated during the primarily rounds en route to finishing in the top-20 in the tournament out of 180 total teams. In addition, the team of Chris Eckert '19 and Timothy Wegener '19 earned a spot in the top-30 at the tournament. Brian Zhou '19 finished 17th overall after advancing to the Double Octofinal. In addition, Zhou was selected as the Team Captain of the World School's Debate Team.
 
In the Middle School competition, Joshua Timmons '21 became Greenhill's first Middle School national champion as he captured the crown in Poetry to go along with a third-place finish in Prose. Aimee Stachowiak '22 reached the Octofinal Round en route to finishing ninth overall in the Lincoln Douglas Debate.
 
Greenhill - which sent 10 Middle & Upper School students to the competition - was recognized with the School of Honor Award for being one of the top programs in attendance based on overall results. The team is coached by Aaron Timmons, Director of Debate, and Eric Forslund, Associate Director of Debate.
