Evergreen Named Best Student Newspaper by Dallas Morning News

The Dallas Morning News has announced the results of its annual high school journalism contest, and the winner in the “Best Newspaper” category is our student-produced campus newspaper, The Evergreen.

Additionally, Senior Amber Syed, Junior Leah Nutkis and Senior Jeffrey Harberg are finalists in the News Feature category and Junior Lane Herbert is a finalist in the Commentary category.

Here is what the judges had to say about The Evergreen:
“From a deep-dive into the school’s climate contributions to the use of e-cigarettes, the paper’s coverage touches on an impressive number of real-life topics, making it a standout entry among the rest. One particular story, ‘Dollar Divide,’ is an ambitious investigation piece that discusses the socioeconomic issues of the student body. It was this story, among other aspects of the paper, that proved The Evergreen’s staff seldom shies away from reporting on real issues that affect their community.”

Evergreen Advisor and Journalism Teacher Gregg Jones says, "Our ability to produce a print newspaper has been impaired by the ongoing events, but our intrepid students are still producing outstanding journalism for The Evergreen Online at https://evergreen.greenhill.org/. Please join me in celebrating our students and their exemplary work."

Congratulations Evergreen Students! We are #GreenhillTogether!
