I’m delighted to welcome you to Greenhill and to the Middle School!

We are planning welcome events and activities to ensure that your transition is a smooth one, and I’ll be sharing important dates and need-to-know details with you soon. Also, watch your email for invitations to grade-level-specific transition nights and academic testing dates (grades 6-8 only). You will have a busy spring!

In the Middle School, we share in your excitement about the adventure ahead. You will soon experience the energy and connection that is part of Greenhill as we provide your student with a range of opportunities to build skills, foster collaboration, respond with wonder, and develop friendships. We know and value our Middle School students and see in them both potential and immediate gifts.

We are honored by your trust, and we are ready to get to know your family and your Middle School student. Looking forward to connecting soon!

Preparing for the School Year

DUE APRIL 24: Modern and Classical Language Selections (Grades 6-8)

Our Modern and Classical Languages Program in the Middle School is quite extensive, offering Chinese, Latin, and Spanish. In grade 5, the Language Carousel allows our students to try a trimester each of Chinese, Latin, and Spanish. In grades 6-8, we establish an in-depth understanding of a single language.

Read our Modern and Classical Languages Handbook here to learn about our language offerings in grades 6-8. It is a helpful resource for discussing language study with your student. As you help your student choose a language, please consider any prior language experience they may have, as well as their passions, interests, and natural curiosity.

GRADE 6

Students entering sixth grade must select one of these languages to commit to for grades 6-8, with their sixth-grade school year being a beginning language course. Complete registration here by Friday, April 24.

GRADES 7 & 8

Students in seventh and eighth grade are required to study a language. The following language questionnaires will help us learn more about your students' language experience.

Please complete these forms by Friday, April 24. Once the information has been reviewed, we will set up a time to speak with you about a placement interview.

If you have any questions, please email Joan Romanosky, Middle School Modern and Classical Languages Department Chair.

DUE APRIL 24: Math Placement Testing Questionnaire (Grades 6-8)

Our Math Placement Testing for students entering grades 6-8 is on Saturday, May 2, at 10:00 am. Please complete our math placement questionnaire here by Friday, April 24. If your student cannot make May 2, please use the form to indicate your preferred testing date: May 7, May 12, or May 14.

Note: Placement tests are necessary ONLY for math placement for rising grades 6, 7, and 8. Testing will take about an hour, depending on the test.

Resources
Technology

At Greenhill, we have a 1:1 device program for students in prekindergarten through twelfth grade. Fifth through twelfth grades are issued a laptop to use throughout the school year. Students are expected to use their Greenhill-issued device for all their Greenhill work. Because we want to ensure the devices our students use support learning in the classroom, the cost of classroom technology is incorporated into tuition.
