I’m delighted to welcome you to Greenhill and to the Middle School!

We are planning welcome events and activities to ensure that your transition is a smooth one, and I’ll be sharing important dates and need-to-know details with you soon. Also, watch your email for invitations to grade-level-specific transition nights and academic testing dates (grades 6-8 only). You will have a busy spring!

In the Middle School, we share in your excitement about the adventure ahead. You will soon experience the energy and connection that is part of Greenhill as we provide your student with a range of opportunities to build skills, foster collaboration, respond with wonder, and develop friendships. We know and value our Middle School students and see in them both potential and immediate gifts.

We are honored by your trust, and we are ready to get to know your family and your Middle School student. Looking forward to connecting soon!

Preparing for the School Year

DUE JUNE 15: Athletic Preferences for Grades 7-8

To get ready for the upcoming school year, we ask students to provide information about their athletic preferences. We understand that choices may change, which is absolutely fine! We just want to gauge interest in each sport to adequately prepare. Make your student's selections for each season here. For planning purposes, please submit forms by June 15.

Our Middle School athletics period is during the final period of the school day. We'll have practice on school days only (no weekend practices, with just a few weekend games scheduled). Practices typically conclude at 4:05 pm for all Middle School sports, except for football, which wraps up by 4:30 pm.

Fall sports start dates (more details to follow):

  • MS girls volleyball, MS boys volleyball, and MS football begin Wednesday, August 19, from 2:45 to 4:05 pm.
  • MS field hockey, MS cross country, MS dance, and MS Sports Performance will begin on the first day of school (Thursday, August 20).

Note: We anticipate that volleyball will be the only fall sport with roster limitations. Volleyball (girls and boys) will have tryouts for the first few days of practice. The tryout period will be determined by the coaches and will be communicated to the students on the first day of practice.

If you have any questions, please email John Rortvedt, Associate Head of Athletics.

Please help us provide the best care possible for your students by submitting your health information on time. Student Health & Medical Eligibility Form: The physical examination must be completed by a physician and uploaded to MyGreenhill.

Required Summer Reading
We are excited about our active and engaging reading curriculum at Greenhill and regard summer as a great opportunity for our students to read every chance they get. With that in mind, students in Middle School have required reading for the summer. Please use the following links to see what grade-level requirements are: Grade 5 | Grade 6 | Grade 7 | Grade 8

If you have any questions, please email Natalie Nihill Ruberto, English Department Chair. If you have not received your student's summer reading book, please email Mary Stefano, MS Office Coordinator, to make arrangements.
Grades 7-8: Summer Sports Performance
Our Sports Performance team hopes to see your student-athlete at their summer sessions. This time offers staff dedicated time to work with students to build, improve, and strengthen the skills and habits that foster a culture of sustained success. Everyone is welcome, no matter what your fitness level, extracurricular interests, or seasonal sport is.

We encourage students to sign up using this Sign-Up Genius link for planning purposes, but if the slots are full, students can still attend. Middle School sessions are Monday to Thursday from June 1 to July 30, from 9:00 to 10:30 am. Please note: The High Performance Center (located in the Phillips Family Athletic Center) is closed July 5-9. View a campus map here.

Note: Student Health & Medical Eligibility forms must be completed before your student can participate in these sessions.

Resources
Technology

At Greenhill, we have a 1:1 device program for students in prekindergarten through twelfth grade. Fifth through twelfth grades are issued a laptop to use throughout the school year. Students are expected to use their Greenhill-issued device for all their Greenhill work. Because we want to ensure the devices our students use support learning in the classroom, the cost of classroom technology is incorporated into tuition.
