Athletics Weekly Wrap-Up: September 13-19

Stay up to date with Greenhill Athletics through weekly recaps featuring results, highlights, and achievements from our student-athletes.

Another exciting week of competition brought memorable moments, impressive performances, and plenty to celebrate across Greenhill Athletics.

Cross Country
Our cross-country runners were up before 5:00 am getting ready for the bus departure to their meet. These amazing runners ran a great race at the Lovejoy Invitational.

The boys team finished 1st out of 29 competing schools in the open varsity race. They packed four finishers into the top ten, led by Evan Tsai's runner-up individual finish! Other scorers included Jack Marshall, Banner Glenwinkel, Nicolas Ramos, and Caydan Zafar. All five of the team's top five set new personal best times for the 5K. Redmond Shea led the boys JV team.

The girls team did not have a complete team but will have a full squad at the Nike South meet this upcoming weekend. At Lovejoy, Lilly Williams placed third, and Rachel Myhre placed 49th (with a new PR!). Congrats to all of our cross-country runners.

Cheer
The team had a chance to perform for the first time this season on Brinkmann Field. In a close football game, they helped keep the crowd on their feet and did a great job leading the Hornet fans in cheers before and after their great halftime performance.

Football
The team lost a tough, hard-fought battle with Atlas Homeschool. Despite Zacchaeus Crumedy finding the endzone for the first time this season and Trey Davis putting up 24.9 fantasy points with his 6 catches for 129 yards and a TD, Greenhill fell short after Atlas pushed ahead in the final quarter.

Field Hockey
The girls had two great team wins over All Saints’ Episcopal School and conference opponent Houston Christian High School. They had a large variety of goal scorers and impact makers this week. Many girls had the opportunity to play new roles for the team, and everyone stepped up to play together and for each other.

Boys Volleyball
The team lost a tough match to Episcopal High School but played them close, losing only by 2 in the second and third sets. They did what we hope all of our teams do after a loss – learn from it and come back ready to play our best the next time we compete. The team got up Saturday morning to defeat conference opponent St. John’s School, in which all varsity players had a chance to contribute in the match!

Girls Volleyball
The team lost a tough match against an excellent Prestonwood Christian team. Despite the loss, the team felt good about how well they competed and felt it was their best match of the year. They did an outstanding job of carrying that momentum into their two conference matches of the week.

On Friday night, there was great energy in Phillips Gymnasium as Bree Carethers and Sophia Deibert were consistently putting the ball down, London Kuntz was leading our defense, and a big shout-out to Jada Fleming and our setters for playing one of their best matches of the year. This all led to a win against Houston Christian. Greenhill played a competitive match on Saturday against John Cooper. The girls continued to play well as they won, including pulling out a tough second set, 31-29.
