Greenhill Students Compete in Chinese Speech Contest

Marcus Gong ’31, Fiona Ou ’31, Lily Qiu ’31, and Emily Zhou ’31 participated in the 2024 North Texas TI Cup Chinese Speech Contest on April 27, where Fiona earned a second-place finish in the grades 3-5 Heritage Language category.

Organized by the North Texas Chinese Culture Promotion Association, the contest is open to kindergarten to twelfth-grade students and encourages learning and speaking Chinese, boosting confidence, and fostering public speaking skills. Contestants are required to give a speech on any topic except religion or politics and are judged on the following:
  • Story Topic:
    • Original, innovative, and interesting
  • Storytelling:
    • Facial expressions, body language
    • Loud voice, full of emotion, rhythmic
    • Using Chinese words and grammar correctly
  • Chinese:
    • Standard Chinese pronunciation, clear and fluent
