Greenhill Robotics Teams Compete in January Tournaments

Greenhill Upper and Middle School robotics students competed in two tournaments in January.

UPPER SCHOOL

On Saturday, January 27, Greenhill’s Hornet Robotics Team (FTC 9045) competed in the FIRST Tech Challenge-North M&S Tournament.

Greenhill finished as an alliance captain in the playoffs and was able to choose their teammates FTC 9626 Hockabots from Hockaday and FTC 10143 Aero from Harmony School of Innovation – Fort Worth. As an alliance in the playoffs, the group lost to the eventual winners of the playoffs.

Additionally, Hornet Robotics finished third in the Connect Award for connecting within the engineering community. The team will be on the field again on February 10 for the semi-regional tournament at Woodrow Wilson High School.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

On Saturday, January 20, Greenhill’s Cyberhornets (Team 9980) and Screenagers (Team 10915) competed against 20 other area teams in one of the final regional qualifiers for this year's FIRST LEGO League season. Both teams did exceptionally well in all four aspects of the competition.

The Cyberhornets saw awesome improvement in each round of their robot game and ended the competition with their highest score in the game, more than doubling their first run. The Screenagers were consistently in the top 10 with their robot game scores, and their day was highlighted by winning the Motivate Award for overcoming obstacles while keeping their spirits high and attitudes positive.

Although they narrowly missed advancing to the regional championship, we are very proud of these students for their hard work.

Congratulations to all the Middle School robotics team members.
