Counseling Program

The Counseling Program is available to assist all Greenhil students on non-academic matters. The counselor meets individually with students and parents to provide support and guidance, offers workshops, serves as a liaison between the School and any outside mental health professional, serves as a referral source for outside professionals and is a student advocate. The counselors are a resource for staff on issues of behavior, emotions and mental health.

Each of our divisions provides developmentally-appropriate counseling services by a full-time licensed clinician. Counselors meet regularly with faculty and staff to stay informed and provide information and assistance.

Learning Assistance Program

The Learning Assistance Program is available to students who have diagnosed learning differences or who are experiencing learning problems and may need educational assistance. Our specialist acts as an advocate for students in the Learning Assistant Program, helping them achieve success in the classroom.

The Learning Specialist also provides tutor referrals, schedules on-campus tutoring, recommends assessments, evaluates requests for assessment and learning assistance, refers families to appropriate educational diagnosticians, interprets educational assessments, and supervises the implementation of recommendations made by educational diagnosticians.

What is Social & Emotional Learning (SEL)

Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) is the responsibility of all the adults and students in the Greenhill community, including, faculty, families, and administrators. Greenhill School strives to incorporate SEL into curriculum and instruction, discipline practices, student support services, professional development, and ongoing assessment for continuous improvement.

"SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions" (CASEL, 2020).

SEL skills are developed when opportunities to practice the SEL competencies and skills are embedded into a student’s daily routines and interactions, both at school and outside of school. Through learning about and understanding one’s self and others, students at Greenhill develop the skills and tools that foster the development of resilience, compassion, courage, and integrity. Instilling healthy habits that promote well-being and intentionally working to build a community of belonging, our students feel a responsibility to the well-being of others and are driven to make a positive impact on the world.
