Girl Scouts Refurbish Preschool Butterfly Garden

On Friday, May 5, Greenhill Girl Scouts of all ages gathered in the Preschool playground as the sun rose in the east, dappling a brand new butterfly garden with light.

This newly refurbished garden was the chosen project of a group of Middle School Girl Scouts, ranging from sixth to eighth grade: Morgan Brooks, Jane Bailey Feinstein, Lindsey Jade Feinstein, Anagha Ghoru, Lane Herbert, and Amina Jenkins.

On the morning of May 5, they ceremoniously passed the garden responsibility to their younger counterparts in Lower School.

The garden, designed to attract Monarch butterflies with native Texas plants, was originally kept up by a former science teacher. Unfortunately, in recent years it had become neglected and overgrown. The girls chose the project as one that would have a "lasting impact on the community while being sustainable and environmental."

The project spanned almost two years and over 60 hours of work. The Middle School Girl Scouts had to plan, present, get approval for donations, and conduct the physical work needed to refurbish the garden. With the help of the next generation of girl scouts, they hope to have made a true, lasting difference in the community for many future Preschool classes to enjoy!
