Hornets Post Outstanding Individual Results in Weekend Events

Members of the boys and girls track and field teams each went their separate ways this past weekend, but both squads came back with tremendous results.
 
At the prestigious Texas Relays hosted by the University of Texas, senior Jernaya Sharp posted a Division I Meet record of 14.22 in the 100-meter hurdles en route to finishing first overall. The Notre Dame signee also finished sixth overall in the 100-meter dash and 12th in the long jump.
 
The 4x400-meter relay team of Megan Olomu, Sophia Martin, Caroline Simpson and Ellen Margaret Andrews finished fourth overall with a time of 4:02.44 while the 4x100-meter relay team of Olomu, Andrews, Martin and Sharp finished fifth in their event.
 
On the boys' side, junior Konnell Woods finished 15th overall in the 110-meter hurdles. The 4x400-meter relay team of Justin Estrada, Douglass Smith III, Bryson Houston and Woods finished 29th overall while the 4x100-meter relay team of Estrada, Houston, Jaelen Harris and Woods finished 35th overall.
 
In addition, the Hornets also competed at the W.T. White High School Invitational on Saturday afternoon where they came away with four first-place showings.
 
On the girls side, Cameron Crates notched a pair of first-place finishes in the 800-meter and 1,600-meter races while Amelia Jones recorded a first-place showing in the pole vault. Sophomore Ariana Luterman posted a pair of top-five finishes, including a second-place finish in the 1,600-meter race and third-place finish in the 800-meter race. Junior Madison Cook finished second overall in the 3,200-meter race while freshman Katy Goodwin finished second in both the 100-meter hurdles and pole vault.
 
Sophomore Daniel Brickman earned gold medal honors in the 3,200-meter race while sophomore Grant Morgan finished third overall in the pole vault to lead the boys track and field team.
