Greenhill Alumna Named Texas Medal of Arts Award Honoree

The Texas Cultural Trust has announced the 2023 Texas Medal of Arts Awards (TMAA) honorees, including alumna Lela Rose ’87. She won the fashion category for her work to “redefine and refine modern feminine grace with eponymous collections that span a woman’s complete wardrobe.”

The New York City-based, American fashion designer has “made it a central focus of her brand to base all possible apparel production locally, actively supporting a proven network of artisans, sewers, pattern-makers, manufacturers, and small businesses based in her adopted hometown.”

Through the Texas Medal of Arts Awards (TMAA), since 2001 the Texas Cultural Trust has celebrated 118 Texas leaders and luminaries who have achieved greatness through their creative talents, as well as those whose generosity has opened doors to artistic opportunity for Texans of all ages.

Past honorees include Jamie Foxx, Matthew McConaughey, Eva Longoria, ZZ Top, Willie Nelson, Boz Scaggs, Dan Rather, Neiman Marcus, H-E-B, Anheuser-Busch, Margaret McDermott, Tommy Lee Jones, Bob Schieffer, Debbie Allen, Robert Rodriguez, Walter Cronkite, Lawrence Wright, Sandra Cisneros, Lyle Lovett, Texas Monthly, Ray Benson, Bill Wittliff, Gene Jones and Charlotte Jones Anderson, Craig Dykers and Elaine Molinar (Snøhetta), Brandon Maxwell, and Exxon Mobil, among others.

As the signature fundraising event of the Texas Cultural Trust, the two-day affair is a star-studded celebration of the creative excellence, exemplary talents, and outstanding contributions by Texans in all disciplines of the arts. The awards presentation will be on February 21 - 22, 2023, in Austin, Texas.
