Greenhill Middle School Quiz Bowl Wins Second Consecutive State Competition

Greenhill Middle School Quiz Bowl students have successfully competed in the NAQT Individual Player National Championship and TQBA Middle School Championship. Highlights include:

 

Three Greenhill middle school students competed and placed in the top ten at the NAQT Individual Player National Championship (IPNCT) in Chicago on Sunday, April 3rd. Quiz bowl is usually a team game, but the IPNCT welcomes individual players to see how their knowledge, reflexes, and anticipation stack up against other elite competitors. Congratulations to the following students:

 

Evans Senvalds '26 – 2nd Place

Kate Ponnambalam '26 – 5th Place

Aaron Kuang '26 – 9th Place

 

 

Fifty-five students across ten Greenhill Middle School Quiz Bowl teams participated in the 13th Annual TQBA Middle School Championship on Saturday, April 2nd.

 

Congratulations to Greenhill A on winning the Texas State Championship for the second year in a row. They were undefeated for the entire tournament, including a victory over our biggest rival this season: Challenger-Strawberry Park A. In the finals, GHA defeated Beckendorff A by a margin of 300 points. The final score was 435-135.

Greenhill is the third middle school program in Texas to secure a repeat victory in the championship and the first to win twice with the same roster. Additionally, this is Greenhill's third middle school state championship.

 

Greenhill B secured impressive victories over River Oaks Baptist, Anderson B, and Hamilton. The rest of their matches were tightly contested. 

 

On the weekend of May 6th, the teams will return to Chicago to compete in the Middle School National Championship Tournament (MSNCT).

 

On their way to a winning record for the tournament, Greenhill C posted wins over Annunciation Orthodox C, St. John's C, Olmsted Falls, Adams D, and St. Theresa's A. 

 

Two students on this team, Akash and Vijay, will compete at MSNCT.

 

Congratulations to Greenhill D on winning the Elementary Division of the Texas State Championship. They finished regulation with a perfect record and posted significant victories over TH Rogers C and Challenger-Strawberry Park B. In the final match, Greenhill D defeated Annunciation Orthodox by 240 to 95. It is the second championship Greenhill has won in the elementary division. 

 

Greenhill E finished regulation with a record of 6-1. Their excellent performance earned the #4 seed and advancement to the quarterfinals. 

 

Greenhill F had a successful day, including a 340-0 win over Kinkaid. Each of their losses was decided by 25 points or less. They entered the playoffs as the #12 seed, and they won two playoff matches to advance to the semi-finals. 

 

Greenhill G finished regulation with a record of 6-1. They advanced to the quarterfinals and were only 5 points away from winning their final match of the day.

 

Greenhill H secured big wins over Kinkaid E and BASIS Austin D. In the consolation round, they defeated Annunciation Orthodox to end the tournament on a high note.

 

Greenhill I displayed tremendous heart as they battled several tough teams. Special shoutout to Trenton and Anderson for competing in every round.

 

Greenhill J emerged victorious over Annunciation Orthodox H, St. Theresa B, and Kinkaid D.
