Greenhill Senior Captures Fourth National Championship

Joshua Timmons made Greenhill history as the senior captured a pair of national titles this past weekend at the University of Kentucky's Tournament of Champions.

Timmons - who has won four national championships and two state championships - won first-place honors in both Program of Oral Interpretation and Oral Interpretation competing in a field against the best oral interpretation competitors in the country. This is the first time in Greenhill history that a student has won an individual events championship at the Tournament of Champions.

In Program of Oral Interpretation, students are combining selections from prose, poetry, news articles, song lyrics, and dramatic literature into a 10-minute performance around a central theme to create an argument using the vehicle of performance/oral interpretation of literature. In Oral Interpretation, students alternate between poetry and prose in different rounds to show diversity in literature selections and skill sets given different literature genres. There were eight total rounds in Program of Oral Interpretation and 16 total rounds in Oral Interpretation over the three-day event.

Congratulations Joshua!
