Greenhill Debate Team Captures National Championship

The Greenhill Debate Team had an incredible weekend as the World Schools Team along with rising senior Joshua Timmons were all crowned national champions at the National Speech & Debate Associations National Tournament.

The Greenhill World Schools Team - which consisted of rising juniors Caroline Greenstone, Jothi Gupta, Cameron Kettles, Ashley Shan, and Aimee Stachowiak - captured an 8-3 victory in the final round to claim the national title. The topic/motion in the final debate was "this house believes that the response to pandemics, such as COVID-19, should be led by national governments as opposed to state/provincial/regional governments." Greenhill led the opposition in this round.

Timmons notched the NDSA National Championship in Poetry Interpretation. In the final round, Timmons outlasted five other students, and each student's piece was five minutes long.

The National Speech & Debate Associations National Tournament is the largest academic competition in the world. The Worlds School Division had over 170 teams from across the country along with several international teams. This year, the entire national tournament was held online.

Congratulations to these amazing students!
