Greenhill Seventh Grader to Appear on Chopped Junior

Rising Greenhill seventh-grader Ava Hignite had the opportunity to experience every young chef’s dream – appearing on Chopped Junior! The show, which airs on Food Network, gives participants a mystery basket of ingredients and a limited amount of time to make a dish using those ingredients.

Ava’s love of cooking started as a young child when she stood on a stepstool to make muffins with her grandmother. She’s continued to hone her craft and shared that one of her favorite dishes to make now is scallops because they are so delicate and they taste delicious. When Ava and her mom found out about the auditions for Chopped Junior, it seemed like a natural opportunity for her.

After several rounds of auditions, Ava was thrilled to find out that she was going to be on the show with three other young chefs. To find out what mystery ingredients she received and how far she advanced on the show, watch on Tuesday, July 23 at 7:00 p.m. CT when the show airs!

Ava’s advice for other young chefs: “Cook how you want to cook and do what you want to do in the kitchen! You don’t have to follow all the rules – except around safety - to make great food.”
