Lower School New Family Information

Dear Families,

Welcome to Greenhill! Welcome to Lower School! I look forward to partnering with you during your child’s journey through the elementary years. This email is to inform you of some important information preceding the start of the 2021-2022 school year. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me directly. I’ll see you again soon!

Please note the following important dates and events:

Virtual Meet & Greet with School Leadership
Thursday, April 15, 7:00 pm, CLICK HERE TO JOIN
Join this special session for new families to meet Head of School Lee Hark, incoming Board Chair Augusto Sasso, and incoming Parents’ Association President Megan Considine ’97. See other new families, ask questions, and learn more about Greenhill and the important role you play in our community.

Lower School Divisional Coffee hosted by the Parents Association is Friday, May 7, 9:00 am, via Zoom. You have already received a Save the Date, and your invitation with Zoom link will be coming soon.

In early June, the New Family Coordinators will secure a buddy family for you, and this includes a student in your child’s grade level. In early summer you’ll be contacted by that family and the future classmates can start getting to know each other. Exactly how will be guided by safety protocols and up-to-date pandemic information.

We are preparing a binder of summer work for every returning and new Greenhill student. I’ll send more information soon about the purpose and reasoning for these binders. Normally, we do not assign such in depth summer academic work, but this year we have decided to be very intentional about making sure every student - whether they learned in-person or from home - is ready for the next grade level. We’ll also be offering weekly teacher-led “office hours” and reading groups. Again, I’ll send more details before the summer, and let you know how we’ll get those binder to you in late May.

In late July or early August, you will be contacted by your child’s homeroom teacher to schedule a home visit. This is an opportunity for the teacher to meet your child one-on-one and to learn a little bit more about him or her before the year begins. Again, exactly how will be guided by safety protocols and up-to-date pandemic information.

I am at school for much of the summer and have an open door. Since we haven’t had a chance to meet at campus tours, admissions previews, or parent interviews as part of the admissions process, I’d love to meet you - virtually or in person - so if you’d like to set up a time to chat during the summer, drop me a line at simpsonm@greenhill.org.

Just a reminder to check out the Welcome New Families website, which can be accessed through the Greenhill webpage. It offers important information and links about upcoming dates. Lastly, in mid-May be on the lookout for information from Jarrett Shine and the Hornet Sports Association about what sports your child might be interested in joining in the fall.

The Greenhill Parents Association will be delivering Greenhill Welcome Bags for you later in April, but if you would like to purchase Greenhill gear for your new student, please order online at The Buzz, Greenhill’s campus store.

New families already have login information and can access everything posted on the Parent Resource Board. Please review the Enrollment Checklist to make sure items like the health form are completed on time. (Note: the SNAP Health Portal login will be coming later this week.)

The first day of school will be Tuesday, August 24. We will have an Open House and an orientation for new families as well - we’ll get those dates to you as soon as we know how and when they will occur.

Again, welcome to Greenhill. I hope to see you at our upcoming events, and don’t hesitate to reach out should you have any questions at all.

Sincerely,

Michael Simpson
