Middle School students begin their choral experience in an Orff classroom, singing, dancing and playing instruments. As students progress through the Middle School, the curriculum incorporates traditional choral literature, solo opportunities, contests, and honor choir auditions.
Greenhill Singers is a select chorus made up of approximately 75 Upper School students. Singers performs throughout the year at various events including Pops Concert, Grandparents Day, Madrigal Dinner, Holiday Concert, ISAS Fine Arts Festival, Spring Concert, Jazz Night, Baccalaureate, and Commencement.
Greenhill Singers A Brief History by Michael Manes
Greenhill Singers was officially organized as an audition-only choir in 1976 by Michael Manes, Head of Fine Arts and music teacher at Greenhill since 1975. Prior to Greenhill Singers, the Upper School choir was an activity and not a class, with varied participation from year to year. The first Greenhill Singers had only eight members who met whenever time allowed. Each year, the group grew in numbers and soon became an officially scheduled class. In 1988 Middle School Choral Director Carol Oliver Mulvey joined the group as co-director with Michael Manes. Through the 1980's and 90's the ensemble continued to grow to its present size of close to 60 members. Traditional performances include holiday and spring concerts, the annual madrigal dinner, the fall Pops Concert, community concerts, the anual ISAS Fine Arts Festival, Jazz Night at Greenhill, Baccalaureate and Commencement. Since the creation of the group, the repertoire of the Singers has steadily grown and the choral quality continues to improve.
