Hornets Claim Second Straight SPC Championship Crown

Girls Volleyball
The Greenhill girls volleyball team captured its second straight SPC Championship after defeating E.S.D. in straight sets (25-20, 25-14, 25-23) on Saturday afternoon in Austin. The Hornets concluded their season with a 31-7 season, including an 8-0 record in regular-season SPC action.
 
In the championship match, senior Ellen Margaret Andrews finished with a team-high 13 kills to go along with two digs and two service aces. Junior Allie Frymire dished out 28 assists to go along with four digs, two kills and two service aces while junior Michal Mathis notched 10 digs, seve kills and two service aces. Junior Jessica Pugh led the Hornets with 14 digs while chipping in with three kills. Sophomore Megan Olomu added six kills, four service aces and three digs, and freshman Natalie Neiman recorded six kills in aid the Hornets.
 
The Hornets defeated St. Stephen's Episcopal School, 3-1 (25-18, 24-26, 25-22, 25-23), and John Cooper School, 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 24-26, 28-26) en route to their second straight conference title.
 
Boys Volleyball
The Greenhill boys volleyball team earned runner-up laurels after dropping a 3-1 decision to Casady School in the SPC Fall Championships Match on Saturday afternoon in Austin. The Hornets concluded its 2016 campaign with a 25-5 overall record, including a 4-2 mark in conference action.
 
The Hornets reached the championship match after defeating Episcopal High School, 3-0, in the quarterfinals following by a 3-0 victory over St. Mark's School of Texas in the semifinals.
 
Field Hockey
The Greenhill field hockey team posted a fifth-place showing at the SPC Fall Championships this past weekend in Austin en route to finishing the season with a 7-11-1 overall record. The Hornets opened up action with a 3-0 victory over Episcopal High School on Thursday evening before falling to the top-seeded Trinity Valley School, 1-0, on Friday afternoon. The Hornets defeated Kinkaid School by a 3-2 score on Saturday morning in their final game.
 
Cross Country
The Greenhil girls cross country team finished second overall while the boys cross country team posted a fifth-place showing at the SPC Fall Championships this past weekend in Austin.
 
Kinkaid School captured the girls team title with a total score of 49 points while Greenhill (52), Hockaday School (69), St. John's School (83) and St. Andrew's Episcopal School (141) rounded out the top five. Freshman Maddie Hatfield finished fourth overall with a time of 19:01.3 to lead the Hornets while fellow freshman Kaiti Ness finished fifth overall with a time of 19:08.2. Junior Cameron Crates finished eighth overall with a time of 19:40.8 while her sister, senior Chandler Crates, finished with a time of 20:19.8 en route to finishing 14th overall. Hatfield and Ness earned all-conference accolades for the first time in their careers while the Crates sisters each earned all-conference honors for the second time.
 
St. John's School finished with a team score of 63 points to claim the boys team title while St. Mark's School of Texas (106), St. Stephen's Episcopal School (108), St. Andrew's Episcopal School (111) and Greenhill (126) rounded out the top five. Junior Matthew Zweig was the Hornets' top performer with a time of 16:39.5 en route to finishing seventh overall. Junior Daniel Brickman finished 17th overall with a time of 17:19.2, and junior Eli Krakow finished 24th overall with a time of 17:29.8. Senior Hudson Fernandes finished 37th overall with a time of 17:41.2. By finishing in the top-20, Zweig earned his first trip to the all-conference team whiel Brickman earned all-conference accolades for the second time in his career.
