Greenhill Sophomore Named Finalist for U.S. Army/Pro Football Hall of Fame Award for Excellence

Greenhill sophomore Ariana Luterman was selected as one of 20 high school athlete finalists for the U.S. Army/Pro Football Hall of Fame Award for Excellence, which highlights the achievements of student-athletes across the country.

Luterman was recognized during a format ceremony on Wednesday afternoon at Rose Hall where she was joined by Jerry Csaki (Manager of Youth/Education for the Pro Football Hall of Fame), representatives from the United States Army as well as NFL Hall of Famer and Dallas Cowboys' legendary quarterback Roger Staubach.

Luterman - who created Team Ariana - has raised more than $100,000 to benefit Vogel Alcove, a childcare center that provides free early development services for homeless children. The Greenhill sophomore has raised the money by combining her passion for competitive triathlon racing with her desire to help homeless children.

The Greenhill sophomore has been selected as an All-Southwest Preparatory Conference award winner in each of the last two seasons in cross country. Luterman is also a member of the Hornets' swimming and track and field teams.

Earlier this year, Luterman was honored by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide program honoring young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism, as one of Texas' top two youth volunteers of 2016.

The Award for Excellence Program is open to all sophomore, junior and senior level high school athletes in the country and focuses on great athletic achievement, excellence in academics and community engagement. The finalists will be honored in Canton, Ohio, during the 2016 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshinement Weekend this summer. The winner of the award will be announced on Saturday, August 6, during a special luncheon.
