Inaugural TEDxGreenhillSchool Event Set for Saturday, April 2

On Saturday, April 2, 2016, Greenhill Upper School/Middle School students, faculty, and parents are invited to attend the inaugural TEDxGreenhillSchool event in the Marshall Family Performing Arts Center. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m., with opening remarks starting at 9:45 a.m. and individual session running from 10:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Organized by Upper School students and US Director of Instructional Technology Dr. Chris Bigenho, TEDxGreenhillSchool features Greenhill students, alumni and special guest speakers from Southern Methodist University and the University of Texas at Dallas.
 
Specific TEDxGreenhillSchool talks include:
 
Dr. John Hoffman: Head of the Physics Department at the University of Texas at Dallas, and a researcher who has worked with NASA on the Apollo 15, 16, and 17 lunar missions, in addition to the Pioneer Venus Sounder Probe, GIOTTO spacecraft to Halley’s Comet, and the Phoenix Mission to Mars. Dr. Hoffman was a member of the team that first discovered water on Mars, and his TEDxGreenhillSchool talk is titled “Could Life Exist on Mars?”
 
Dr. Brian Stump: Albritton Professor of Earth Sciences at the Southern Methodist University’s Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences, and a researcher whose work has shed light on the detection of nuclear explosions through seismic waveforms and the relationship between earthquakes and fracking. His TEDxGreenhillSchool talk is titled “Unanticipated Outcomes – Science and Society.”
 
Byron Sanders '01: a Vice President with U. S. Trust, the private bank of Bank of America, and former Executive Director of the Dallas Education Foundation. Using a key decision by President Nixon, Mr. Sanders will examine how the choices we make can have the unintended ripple effects on racial equity that dramatically shape our future together. His TEDxGreenhillSchool talk is titled “Nixon, Babies, and Social Justice.”
 
Mansi Kumar: a graduating senior at Greenhill who will be speaking on compassion and embarrassment. Her talk is titled “Musings of an Embarrassed Tween.”
