Hornet Sports Report - September 5, 2016

Football
The Greenhill football team improved to 3-0 on the 2016 season following a 59-39 victory over Casady School on Friday evening at Brinkmann Field.
 
Junior Xavier Bryant scored four touchdowns - one offensive, two defensive and one special teams - to lead the Hornets. Bryant scored on his first touchdown in the first quarter on a 3-yard pass as well as an 84-yard punt return. Defensively, Bryant scored on a 38-yard interception then picked off a Casady two-point conversion and returned it 102 yards for a touchdown.
 
Senior Konnell Woods connected on 19-of-29 passes and three touchdowns while rushing for a team-high 98 yards and one score. Woods threw touchdown passes of 25 and 20 yards to his brother, Kassidy - who finished with nine catches for 163 yards. Konnell Woods also added a 10-yard touchdown run to open up the fourth quarter.
 
Senior Jake Hershman rushed for 25 yards on eight attempts, including touchdown scores of 1 and 2 yards. In addition, Hershman caught three passes for 26 yards, and Bryson Houston caught three passes for 25 yards. JT Herrscher finished wtih three solo tackles and 12 assisted tackles while Curtis Dorsey added five solo tackles. Douglass Smith and Michael Simpson each recorded a sack in the game.
 
Girls Volleyball
The Greenhill girls volleyball team finished third overall out of 32 teams at the Prince of Peace Volleyball Tournament this past weekend. The Hornets are currently 16-5 overall on the season.
 
The Hornets opened up action with a 2-0 victory (25-18, 25-23) over Lutheran South Academy on Friday afternoon. Senior Ellen Margaret Andrews and junior Michal Mathis each posted six kills in the match to lead the Hornets while Allie Frymire dished out 16 assists, five service aces and three kills. Jessica Pugh added four kills and four digs while Ashley Isenberg collected five digs in the match.
 
In their second match, the Hornets defeated Fort Worth Christian School in straight sets (25-19, 25-17). Andrews finished with a team-high 10 kills to go along with eight digs while Pugh collected a match-high 16 digs while adding eight kills. Mathis recorded six kills and nine digs, and Frymire dished out 25 assists to go along with five digs.
 
The Hornets made quick work of Brentwood Christian School in straight sets (25-4, 25-11) in their final match of the first day of action. Andrews finished with a match-high seven service aces to go along with six kills and two digs. Frymire recorded 15 assists, three digs and two kills whiel Mathis notched four kills in the match. Pugh added four service aces, three kills and two digs in the contest.
 
On Saturday, the Hornets opened up action with a 2-1 victory (25-18, 23-25, 15-9) victory over Liberty Christian School. Pugh finished with seven kills and 12 digs while Mathis recorded seven kills and 11 digs. Frymire dished out 24 assist to go along with eight digs, and Andrews chipped in with eight digs, six kills, two service aces and two blocks. Isenberg finished with four kills and nine digs in the match.
 
In the semifinals, the Hornets notched a 2-0 victory (30-28, 25-13) over Midland Christian School. Freshman Natalie Neiman finished with a team-high seven kills to go along with two digs and two service aces while Frymire dished out 23 assists while recording five digs and two kills. Andrews notched eight digs, six kills and four service aces in the match while Mathis added six kills and six digs. Pugh added seven digs and four kills to aid the Hornets.
 
In the finals, the Hornets suffered a 2-1 setback (25-16, 24-26, 17-15) to Houston Christian High School. Mathis recorded seven kills and a season-high 18 digs to lead the Hornets while Andrews chiped in with seven kills and six digs. Frymire recorded 23 assists, eight digs and one kill. Pugh recorded nine digs and three kills and Neiman finished with six kills in the match.
