Former Faculty Member: Rennie (dePenaloza) Beauchamp

The Greenhill community mourns the passing of longtime Greenhill faculty member and parent of alumni, Rennie dePenaloza Beauchamp.
 
The Requiem Mass will be held Dallas at Christ the King Catholic Church (8017 Preston Rd) on Saturday, May 16, 10 am.
 
 
Rennie passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015 after a courageous 13-year battle with breast cancer. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri and attended John Burroughs School.
 
Rennie graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. She moved to Dallas in 1985 where she began her career as a language teacher at Greenhill School. Rennie taught French, Spanish, and coached field hockey at Greenhill for over 15 years. Rennie married Weldon Beauchamp in 1989 and together they moved to London, England where she then taught at the LVS School (Licensed Victuallers School) in Ascot, UK. While living in London, Rennie and Weldon traveled throughout Europe and spent many weekends rock climbing in Cornwall, Wales and Scotland. Rennie and Weldon took a ferry from Southampton to France and bicycled through Brittany and Normandy. Together they traveled to Kenya where Rennie and Weldon climbed Mt. Kenya, followed by backpacking and camping through Tanzania. They also travelled to China and Thailand.
 
While in London, Rennie’s daughter, Margot, was born in January 1993. Rennie, Weldon, and their new daughter moved to Dryden, NY where they lived for four years while her husband was in graduate school at Cornell University in Ithaca. Rennie gave birth to Shelby in 1995 in Ithaca, NY. The Beauchamp Family returned to Dallas, TX in 1997 and lives near White Rock Lake. Rennie, Margot, and Shelby travelled to Greenhill School each day for 13 years. Rennie again was a language teacher for fifth grade while the girls were students from kindergarten through high school.
 
Rennie and Weldon made several trips to Morocco to visit friends as well explore the country. The last trip to Morocco was with Margot and Shelby; also visiting Margot’s birthplace in London. Rennie and Weldon spent many weekends sailing with their family and friends on their sailboat on Lake Texoma.
 
In 2010, while Rennie and Weldon were in Istanbul, Turkey she found that her cancer had metastasized. Rennie again began a determined five years in her desire to live. Together with her friends in the “Boxing Babes” they raised over $1 million through the Susan G. Komen 3 Day event. Rennie began walking the 3-Day in 2007 and walked 60 miles each year for 5 years, two more years she did the 60 miles in a wheelchair. Rennie inspired many to fight and live with a smile while battling cancer. Rennie was a truly amazing woman who will always be an example and inspiration to her family and friends.
Rennie is survived by her husband, Weldon, children, Margot and Shelby and siblings, Barbara dePenaloza, Peter dePenaloza and wife Noreen, Lisa Rhinehart and husband Richard, Barney dePenaloza and wife Suzanne, Whitney Thomas, Andy Bartlett and wife Leslie, and Dan Bartlett, Mother-in-law Barbara Fitkin, stepfather William Thomas. Pre-deceasing: Eugene dePenaloza, father; Helen Wall, Mother; Christopher dePenaloza, brother.

Rennie requested that in lieu of flowers that people donate to their favorite charities in her name, or donate to the Susan G. Komen foundation in her name.
