New Community Service opportunity for Dallas alumni

Dear Alumni -
As Service Chair, I have the privilege of implementing service projects and learning opportunities for alumni this year. The Dallas Furniture Bank (“DFB”), a member of the National Furniture Bank Association, is a nonprofit agency that collects and stores gently-used, basic household furniture -- cribs, beds, dressers, sofas, tables, and chairs -- through donations from the furniture industry, businesses, hotels, motels, and individuals from the community. Social service agencies that join with the DFB are eligible to refer their pre-qualified clients to the DFB to receive the donated items.

The DFB helps between 300 and 400 needy families a year (at least 1200 individuals) rebuild their lives (often disrupted by transitional homelessness) and regain dignity and independence. DFB is the only agency in Dallas County whose mission is to provide basic household furnishings to people in need. I am proud to say that two Greenhill alums, Sheryl Fields Bogen ’72 and Jerry Szor ’72, founded the DFB.
Greenhill Alumni will have a special opportunity to assist DFB clients in selecting furniture from DFB’s warehouse on April 14 from 8:45 a.m.-12:00 p.m. The commitment is short but the potential community impact is significant.

Please email Whitney Strauss at straussw@greenhill.org if you would like to volunteer. You are welcome to invite non-alumni as well.

Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you on the day of the event!
