Two Recent Alumni Place in Debate Tournament

Over the summer the Greenhill debate team competed in the National Forensic League’s National Tournament in downtown Dallas. The Tournament is the largest academic competition in the world bringing over 3000 students together from all 50 states and several US territories. Students compete at the event by winning top honors at the District meet in the spring.

After 16 grueling rounds of competition, recent graduates Christian Patterson '11 and Kush Patel '11 advanced to the final round where they were awarded 2nd place in policy debate out of the top teams in the United States (losing on a 6-5 decision). Patterson and Patel are attending the University of Southern California and Michigan State respectively on debate scholarships.

Rising senior Farhan Damani and rising junior Rebecca Kuang also advanced to the elimination rounds to rounds 11 and 10 respectively placing them in the top 30 in the country in Lincoln – Douglas debate.

As a result of the total team effort, Greenhill was awarded a Distinguished School of Excellence award for debate designed for schools whose students excel in the elimination rounds at the tournament. Congratulations.

The team is coached by Aaron Timmons and Eric Forslund.
